The Albuquerque Isotopes’ playoff run took a blast of cold water Friday night.
Game three of the ‘Topes’ best-of-five Pacific Coast League first-round series against Omaha was delayed by rain for 2 hours, 3 minutes. The visiting Storm Chasers appropriately followed with a 7-4 victory that didn’t end until 12:41 a.m.
Omaha took a 2-1 lead in the best-of-5 series.
Game four is scheduled for Saturday at 7:05 p.m. at Isotopes Park. Game five, if necessary, is Sunday at 1:35 p.m.
Rain fell steadily for more than an hour at Isotopes Park before finally breaking up around 8:30 p.m.
A small but determined crowd of 4,096 cheered and began filtering in from the concourse to the seats as the tarp was removed. First pitch came at 9:08 p.m.
Omaha struck in the third inning, getting a long leadoff homer from Anthony Seratelli before accepting a few gifts from the Isotopes.
Derrick Robinson reached on a bunt single, and Irving Falu followed with a routine grounder to second. Elian Herrera opted to try to tag Robinson, who stopped until Herrera threw late to first. Robinson slid safely into second. A walk later loaded the bases in front of Max Ramirez’s two-run single, making the score 3-0.
Mitch Maier’s two-run homer in the seventh increased the margin to 5-0.
Trailing 6-1, the Isotopes made things interesting with a three-run rally in the eighth. Jerry Sands and Trent Oeltjen had RBI singles, and Albuquerque had the tying runs on base with one out. But Omaha reliever Donnie Joseph escaped the jam, Omaha added a run in the ninth and reclaimed the lead in the series.
