Rick Wright is the primary UNM Lobos men's football beat writer for the Albuquerque Journal.

He's a New Mexico native whose date of birth is a closely guarded secret. (No, he did not cover the first Lobo-Aggie football game in 1893). A Journal reporter since 1977, he has covered UNM football and basketball, boxing, mixed martial arts, eight Super Bowls, three Olympic Games, etc.

Rick graduated from UNM with a degree in Latin American studies and later earned a second major in journalism. He has won numerous state and regional awards for columns, features and news writing and three times has been named New Mexico Sportswriter of the Year.

He and his wife, Barbara, are proud parents of an 8-year-old Shetland sheepdog.
