2 BIG PICTURES of Bryce Alford in the Saturday Journal? Come on, there are more kids in NM that deserve some recognition, not just Bryce Alford. I am tired of hearing about Mr. Alford, his pay and his sons. Yes he is a good coach, and yes his son is a prolific scorer, but how bout recognizing other kids and coaches not named Alford. The Journal and Lobo fans adoration of Alford is overblown in my opinion. Lets see him do something in the NCAA tournament. Lets hear about someone else!

ED, YOU HYPOCRITE! The biggest black eye on any sports program in the state is the one perpetuated by UNM’s basketball program — Lobogate! Plus, it wasn’t that long ago that one of UNM’s current basketball players was arrested and suspended from the team. UNM’s program certainly isn’t spotless. Coach Alford is running an excellent program now at UNM, but so is Coach Menzies at NMSU. Neither coach tolerates aberrant behavior from his players. The state should be proud of both programs — both programs are clear of NCAA violations and at the top of the standings of their respective conferences.

BOTH SAGARIN and KenPom consider margin of victory in their rankings. A team could play a horrible schedule, blow every team out, and have high rankings in these particular models. I would say that the Lobos are far closer to their RPI ranking than they are to their KenPom or Sagarin rankings.
