The University of New Mexico softball team lost 7-2 to Hampton, then rebounded to defeat Bradley 3-1 on Saturday, the second day of the UNM Lobo Classic.
The Lobos have won three of four games as tournament hosts after an 0-7 start to the 2013 season. New Mexico wraps up tournament play today.
Kari Gutierrez (0-2) took the loss in the first game for UNM, allowing four runs on six hits in 2 innings. Hampton outhit the Lobos 11-6. Cassandra Kalapsa went 2-for-3 with a triple and was the lone Lobo with more than one hit.

It was Hampton’s first win in seven games.
Lauren Soles’ complete-game four-hitter led UNM vs. Bradley (3-5). Soles (1-2) struck out seven and walked three. Kalapsa homered in game two, and Naumia Tellez doubled twice in three at-bats. Her first hit scored the game’s first run in the first inning, driving in Katie Ingram.
Kalapsa’s two-run homer in the fourth inning broke a 1-1 deadlock.
Soles allowed only a first-inning run in a 116-pitch performance.
NMSU SWEPT: In Las Cruces, New Mexico State dropped two games on the second day of the Troy Cox Classic, losing 10-2 to Penn State and 10-9 to Colorado State.
“We came out a little flat today and need to learn to come out ready for every game,” head coach Kathy Rodolph said. “I’m happy with our battle in the CSU game, and I thought Makayla (McAdams) came in and got us some key stops in the circle and allowed our offense to battle.”
McAdams pitched five innings over two games.
Senior Amber Olive went 4-for-7 with four hits and an RBI over the two games.
The Aggies (6-3) entered the day on a six-game winning streak. They finish the event today with games against Colorado State and Texas Tech.
ARKANSAS TECH 9, ENMU 4: In Wichita Falls, Texas, despite junior Erica Armendarez’s 3-for-3 effort the Zias (2-12) lost to Arkansas Tech (3-4) at the Holiday Inn at the Falls Tournament at Mustangs Park. Armendarez and an RBI and double.
The Zias outhit the Golden Suns 11-8, with Las Cruces High alum Alberta Medina reaching safely for the third consecutive game. Los Lunas freshman Jaqueline Candelaria had an RBI single. Seven Zias registered a hit.
