Las Cruces boxer Austin Trout will face Mexico’s Saul “Canelo” Alvarez on April 20 in San Antonio rather than May 4 in Las Vegas, Nev., Alvarez’s promoter announced Wednesday.
It will be a junior lightweight title unification fight. Trout is the WBA champion at 154 pounds, Alvarez the WBC champion.
Trou-Alvarez was to have taken place on the Floyd Mayweather-Robert Guerrero undercard on May 4, but Alvarez wanted assurance he would get a shot at Mayweather should he and Mayweather both win.
That assurance not forthcoming, It appears Alvarez and Trout will headline the April 20 in San Antonio.
