n THERE ARE 2 TEAMS on the court at all times. All stats are determined by both teams, not just one of them. It makes sense that a team that plays against the 200th ranked SOS will score more points, grab more rebounds, shoot a better percentage, and have a higher point differential than a team that plays against the 3rd ranked SOS. A team’s opponent is just as responsible for that team’s statistics as they are. To claim that a team isn’t very good because of their stat rankings in these particular categories is illogical, and anyone who makes such a claim knows absolutely nothing about college basketball. In the end, all that matters is who you’ve played and who you’ve beaten. UNM is 17-4 vs the top 100. There is no team in the nation even remotely close to that record against top competition.

n THE REALIST says that we will see who was right in about two weeks but unfortunately for him he has already been proven wrong. Whatever happened to the three game losing streak that was supposed to start in Cincinnati and end with UNLV in the Pit? This Lobo team was picked to finish third in the MWC and instead it ran away and hid with an astounding three game lead heading into the last week of play in one of the toughest leagues in America. … Colorado St, Boise St, and NMSU all have one home loss on the season and that loss is to the Lobos. Winning the close game on the road is what separates UNM from their MWC brethren. This team has exceeded my wildest expectations and anything from this point forward is icing on the cake as expecting more wouldn’t be “realistic”!

n UNM ALUMNUS: Under what auspices did you become a UNM Alumnus? Dribble is what you do with a basketball. Drivel is what you did to sportsspeakup.
