Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir is the latest addition to the talent at Albuquerque’s Jackson-Winkeljohn Mixed Martial Arts.
Mir (16-6) is preparing for an April 20 UFC fight against Daniel Cormier (11-0) to be televised on Fox. The Las Vegas, Nev., resident said he has come to Albuquerque to work with the coaches at J-W — Greg Jackson, Mike Winkeljohn, Chris Luttrell, among others — and to train with fighters like UFC light heavyweight champion Jon “Bones” Jones.
“It isn’t like other gyms, where I can kind of go through the motions and and still succeed and be victorious,” he said. “Here, if I’m not 100 percent I go home with a lot of bumps and bruises.”
