Valley High School has suspended softball coach Oscar Medrano, likely for the rest of the 2013 season.
“Probably not,” Valley principal Anthony Griego said Tuesday, asked if Medrano would return before the end of this season.
Griego would not comment about what precipitated the suspension, citing it as a personnel issue.
The Journal, however, has confirmed that it relates to a Valley game at Cibola on March 28. Medrano was ejected from that game for reasons not yet confirmed. There was also a fight between a Valley parent and a Cibola parent during that game, Cougars athletic director and softball coach Gene Victor said.
Both Valley and Cibola are investigating, Griego and Victor said.
Medrano, in his eighth season as the Vikings head coach, declined to comment Tuesday. His suspension began last week.
Junior varsity coach Johnny Ortiz is coaching the team in the interim.
