EAGLE NEST Eagle Nest Lake has opened for ice fishing.
The state Department of Game and Fish said the cold weather has created ice that is thicker than the 9-inch minimum standard the department has set for safety.
The department and the state Parks Division jointly manage the northern New Mexico lake.
The game agency has the authority to open or close the Eagle Nest Lake to ice fishing, while state park managers have the authority to restrict or limit the activity as conditions require.
