SALT LAKE CITY -- Lobos get cosmetic TD.

Backup B.R. Holbrook's 15-yard TD pass to WR Victor James left Utah with a 45-14 victory on Saturday night at Rice-Eccles Stadium.

Read Sunday's Journal for complete coverage of the game.

Utah scores again off a turnover.

Sausan Shakerin's 8-yard run with 9:56 left capped a 37-yard drive that gave the Utes a 45-7 lead.

The Utes got the ball after UNM WR Daryl Jones tipped a Donovan Porterie pass to cornerback Ryan Lacy.

And the beating is underway.

Eddie Wide ran 35 yards for his second TD of the game, giving the Utes a 38-7 lead with 4:06 left in the third quarter.

The Utes have tallied  202 yards in the first 11 minutes of the third quarter.

The home team is pulling away.

WR Jereme Brooks' 29-yard reverse gave the Utes a 31-7 lead with eight minutes left. The run capped an eight-play, 82-yard drive.

Utah RB Eddie Wide went over 100 rushing yards the next series for a school-record sixth straight game.

Utah marches right down the field to start the second half.

QB Jordan Wynn embarked the Utes on a six-play, 63 yard drive that culminated with RB Sausan Shakerin's rugged 20-yard jaunt on a screen pass to give the home team a 24-7 lead with 12:44 left in the third quarter.

RB Eddie Wide was shaken up two plays before the TD.

Utes add field goal just before half.

Joe Phillips' 24-yard field goal with 53 seconds left in the half gave Utah a 17-7 lead. UNM, however, managed to keep the Utes out of the end zone after a 72-yard drive.

A symbol of UNM's bad luck came on Utah's biggest play of the drive. QB Jordan Wynn completed a 33-yard pass to WR Luke Matthews to UNM territory. Lobo CB Anthony Hooks stripped Matthews of the ball, and LB Carmen Messina had a chance to recover it, but David Reed came up with the ball instead at the UNM 35.

At the half, the Utes led 17-7. The Lobos had 200 total yards in the first half, but Utah had 272.

Utah takes the lead, but the Lobos are making it tough.
RB Eddie Wide's 1-yard run capped an 81-yard, 15 play drive that gave the Utes a 14-7 lead with 5:59 left in the half. A questionable roughing-the-passer call on UNM DE Johnathan Rainey helped spark the drive, giving Utah a new set of down at its 44. It also had to convert a fourth-and-1 at the Lobo 3 to keep the drive going.

Wide carried the ball to the 1. A pair of Lobos were celebrating, thinking the Utes needed to get to the end zone.

Lobos have an answer.

UNM, which moved the ball well early in the game, shocked the Utah crowd with a 59-yard pass from QB Donovan Porterie to WR Ty Kirk on third-and-17 to tie the game at 7 with 4:07 left in the first quarter.

Kirk is playing for the first time after serving a two-game suspension for a violation of team rules. He has three catches for 80 yards so far.

True freshman Emmanuel McPhearson's interception at the Utah 14 helped UNM remained tied with the 17th-ranked Utes at 7 at the end of the first quarter.

Utah strikes.

The Utes converted two third-and-long situations, the second a 69-yard touchdown pass from QB Jordan Wynn to WR Jereme Brooks for a 7-0 Utes lead wtih 5:52 left.

Wynn made his first career start.

Fifteen minutes to kickoff.

It's a beautiful day here with a slight breeze. UNM President David Schmidly has accompanied athletics director Paul Krebs and senior associate athletics director Tim Cass to today's game. None would comment on the incident involving Lobo women's soccer player Elizabeth Lambert and members of the BYU team on Thursday.

Utah athletics personnel said Lambert was a hot topic in Salt Lake City on Friday, but the incident quickly submerged into the background Saturday with both BYU and Utah football teams in action.
