SALT LAKE CITY - University of New Mexico athletics director Paul Krebs refused comment on the previously unreleased page in Human Resources athletics representative Shannon Garbiso's notes that the school gave the media on Friday.
Garbiso wrote that quarterbacks coach Tee Martin said head coach Mike Locksley told then-wide receivers coach J.B. Gerald that he would "slap the (expletive) out of you" during a heated exchange at the end of an Aug. 13 practice. The new information was on the back of the page that Garbiso wrote her notes concerning her interview with Martin. UNM previously had given the media only the front side of the page. "I've fully discussed the whole issue," Krebs said when asked a pair of questions on the subject. "I've said all I care to say." Locksley said after the game he was not interested in rehashing what is in Garbiso's notes. "That stuff will take care of itself," he said. "I've talked about it enough. I've got a team in there that we've got to get ready to play next week." Krebs was at the game with President David Schmidly and associate athletics director Tim Cass. Krebs also refused comment on the aftermath of Lobo women's soccer player Elizabeth Lambert in regard to her attack on members of the Brigham Young team during UNM's Mountain West Conference tournament semifinals match against BYU on Thursday. The Salt Lake Tribune and Deseret News both had stories of the incident on the inside of their Saturday sports sections but shed no new light on the matter. STILL TACKLING: UNM sophomore middle linebacker Carmen Messina finished 19 tackles Saturday, tying his career high. He's recorded a double digits in tackles for the eighth straight game, three games shy of the school record set by former All-American Brian Urlacher's 11 straight games of double-digit tackles between 1998-99. Messina leads the nation with 127 tackles on the season. INJURY UPDATE: Redshirt freshman cornerback Nathan Enriquez did not make the trip to Salt Lake City due to a concussion he suffered at San Diego State. True freshman Emmanuel McPhearson made his first career start. Senior strong-side linebacker Clint McPeek played despite missing most of the week with back spasms. He finished with 10 tackles and a fumble recovery. Redshirt freshman tailback A.J. Butler missed his second straight game with a high ankle sprain. THIRD-QUARTER WOES: Locksley said the execution breakdown in the third quarter started with the kickoff, when Garrett Hentrup was supposed to try a short, directional kick so that Utah could not get a return. The ball, however, went to returner Jereme Brooks in the middle of the field at the 15, and he took it to the 37. The Utes outscored the Lobos 21-0 in the quarter, and foes have a 91-23 edge this season.
