  • Inspiring menu could use a little light
Formerly a bagel shop next door to a now-closed New Mexican restaurant, an upscale dining destination has filled the A-frame building near the ski area turnoff on N.M. 14. Taking its name from that well-traveled East Mountain corridor, North Inspired Cuisine began taking shape over the summer, causing whispers and curiosity in an area always excited to see new restaurant options.   (Thursday, November 19, 2009)

    Nibbles: China Garden
I started lunch with a plate of 10 fried wontons ($4.25) served in a thick, dark garlic sauce that was mildly spicy.   (Thursday, November 19, 2009)

Piccolino satisfies, but could spice it up
Piccolino, a plucky little restaurant just off Agua Fria near Siler Road, offers a nonfranchise option for moderately priced Italian food. Hungry families appreciate the meals and the convenience of having it here on the side of town where average, working people live.   (Thursday, November 19, 2009)

BellaLuca gives T or C an upscale oasis
In the heart of downtown Truth or Consequences, amid the spruced-up motels and hot spring bathhouses, is a gem in the desert.   (Thursday, November 12, 2009)

    Fill up on enchanting cooking
Cooler weather stirs my craving for traditional New Mexican fare, the heartwarming blend of spicy chile, corn tortillas, long-simmered pinto beans and light sopaipillas. PC's serves this comfort food with gusto.   (Thursday, November 12, 2009)

    Nibbles: Blue Cactus Grill
The chile rellenos ($9.99) appealed to me because I had seen a patron eating them when I walked in and because I hadn't had them in many years, not since I was a regular at Josie's Casa de Comida in downtown Santa Fe.   (Thursday, November 12, 2009)

    Nibbles: Dee Dee's
Dee Dee's is a simple restaurant with a limited menu. But what I ordered for lunch I thought was well-prepared and enjoyable.   (Thursday, November 05, 2009)

La Plazuela has goods but can't deliver
Re-opened after some remodeling (guests ate elsewhere in the hotel), La Fonda's classic dining room, La Plazuela, looks great.   (Thursday, November 05, 2009)

Same beloved food, minus the cacophony
Sadie's needs little introduction, for it has built a reputation over more than a generation of chile-loving families, friends and acquaintances as a destination restaurant — when you are prepared for an hourlong dinner wait. Better that wait be where both the menu and the ownership are New Mexican through and through.   (Thursday, November 05, 2009)
