Make New Mexico Your Summer Vacation Destination
By Johanna King / For the Journal
For some baby boomers, hitting the open road is a rite of summer, recalling childhood vacations and a continuing love affair with the car. Whether you plan to sneak away for just a night or a few days, AAA New Mexico recommends several vacation spots— all in our own backyard.

    | Albuquerque | Santa Fe | Taos | Roswell|
    | White Sands National Monument | Carlsbad | Las Cruces |

    ALBUQUERQUE

Albuquerque is New Mexico's largest city and, some say, the gateway to central and northern New Mexico. Some of the city's attractions are historic Old Town, Petroglyph National Monument, Sandia Peak Aerial Tramway (the world's longest single-span tramway), New Mexico Museum of Natural History and the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. For 10 days each October the Kodak Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta, the largest ballooning event in the world, fills the sky with hundreds of hot air balloons.
