Allergies, Ear Make Cat Suffer

By Dr. Jeff Nichol
For the Journal
Q: My cat was diagnosed with an aural hematoma and was subjected to surgical implantation of a shunt. The swelling did go down but since the shunt has fallen out, the ear is once again swollen. The cat was placed on Royal Canin canned duck food for itching. I had been giving her a variety of natural canned foods because she seemed to be over-grooming her abdomen. I do not want my cat to suffer, but I want to explore handling this situation in a manner that matches our natural/organic approach to living.
