Make your puppy feel safe
Q: I have a German shepherd-husky mix that is 9 weeks old. She does fairly well when out on walks but she becomes quite fearful of barking dogs and pulls on the lead. When I try to correct this behavior (making sudden turns), she pulls more. She will eventually calm down when we get farther away. But as soon as she gets into the backyard, she will almost attack me and bite and jump rather aggressively. She scares me. Is she attempting to take the dominant role? What can I do differently?   (Friday, September 05, 2008)

Microchipping can save a lost pet's life
Steven Stacy had done this before: left his German short-haired pointer Dieter for a long weekend, inside the walled yard with a self-feeding dish, a kennel and a neighbor to watch over him.   (Friday, September 05, 2008)

Mobile pet services come to Fido, Fluffy at home
Let's face it, Spot and Whiskers know when you're taking them to the vet. The whining, the yelps and the desperate meows all the way to the doctor's office make the trip quite a production whenever it's time to go to the v-e-t. (Yes, they know what you're talking about, even when you spell it.)   (Friday, August 29, 2008)

Bring cats together slowly
Q: Our cat, Stella, was 7 last year when I brought my late mother's cat, Patches, age 10, into our home. Patches growls at Stella until Stella chases her. They “yell” at each other and exchange paws in the air. Usually they stay in separate areas by choice, but when my husband and I are home there's friction. What can we do?   (Friday, August 29, 2008)

Pets can Donate Blood, Too
It doesn't take Lassie-like heroics for pets to save a life. In fact, in just a few hours every two months, K9s and felines can save many of their furry friends with a simple blood transfusion.   (Monday, August 25, 2008)

Remedy for fleas irritating
Q: I have noticed that when I apply Frontline or Biospot to my 25-pound terrier mix, he becomes somewhat agitated for awhile. Maybe he doesn't like the smell, or is he allergic? Do you have comments on the new oral flea/tick medication?   (Friday, August 22, 2008)

Woman answers calling to help animals
Kathy Runk's epiphany came as she was tending to animals at an emergency shelter in Mississippi during Hurricane Katrina.   (Friday, August 15, 2008)

Ease the scaredy out of cat
Most cats are relaxed and in control when life is predictable. But a surprise that causes one scared kitty to run and hide may trigger an aggressive reaction in another. Either way, be careful. Butt in when feline emotions are running high and your body could suffer collateral damage.   (Friday, August 15, 2008)

Group needs help with 'miracle' dog
Charcoal, someone said, is a dog whose issues don't get her down.   (Tuesday, August 05, 2008)

It's hard to make raw work
