Frequently Asked Election Questions
When is the primary election?
Tuesday, June 3. Polling places will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. If you are in line when the polls close, you will be allowed to vote.
Who is eligible to vote in the primary election?
New Mexico has a closed primary election. That means only registered Democrats and Republicans are eligible to vote in the Democratic and Republican primary elections.
Can I still register to vote?
No. Voter registration for the primary election closed on May 6.
What's on the ballot?
The Democratic Party ballot will run from U.S. Senate to local offices. (Democrats voted on presidential nominees in a Democratic presidential caucus on Feb. 5). The Republican ballot will run from president to local offices.
How do I get an absentee ballot?
Contact your county clerk’s office. See county clerk info listed below.
Can I vote early in person?
Yes. Early voting is under way now and ends May 31. For Bernalillo County click here. For other counties, call the local clerk’s office.
Where do I vote?
Your voter ID card includes your precinct number. Call your county clerk to find out your polling place. Or, if you live in Bernalillo County, the clerk’s Web site has a handy guide to find your polling place. Valencia County residents can check their precinct boundaries online. By the way, your ID card is primarily a reminder to you. It is not required to cast a ballot.

The Legislature has a web page that has PDF maps of all 42 N.M. Senate districts and all 70 House districts here.
What about the Public Regulation Commission district?
