A cool front crossing New Mexico from the northwest will usher in cooler weather Friday, when wind will be lighter, the National Weather Service said.
A strong cold front will plunge southward across the eastern plains Saturday, kicking up strong north wind and chances of afternoon and evening showers and thunderstorms.
The front also will cause east canyon wind through the Rio Grande Valley Saturday night.
New Mexico had mostly clear skies before dawn today. Wind gusted up to 40 mph atop ridges in the central and northern sections of the state.
Low temperatures before sunrise ranged from the 30s and 40s over the mountains to the 40s and near 60 across the lowlands.
High temperatures Wednesday ranged from 66 degrees at Cloudcroft to 94 degrees at Carlsbad.
