Stormy Weather Leaving N.M.

Associated Press
Crews were salting and sanding roads today in northern New Mexico, where storms have dumped heavy snow that caused school closures in some areas.
Chama received 33 inches of snow since Saturday afternoon, and Angel Fire had 12 inches, the National Weather Service said.
The heavy snow prompted Gov. Bill Richardson to declare Rio Arriba County a disaster area Monday.
Schools were closed today in Chama, Cuba, Dulce, Gallup-McKinley County, Jemez Mountain, Jemez Valley, Maxwell, Penasco, Pine Hill, Pojoaque, Quemado, Questa, Taos and Zuni.
The stormy weather caused difficult driving conditions throughout the north, the state Department of Transportation said.
Snowpacked, icy conditions caused the temporary closures of N.M. 17 between Chama and the New Mexico-Colorado line, U.S. 64 between Tierra Amarilla and Tres Piedras and N.M. 134 between Sheep Springs and Crystal, the department said.
The weather service issued a winter storm warning until 5 p.m. today for northeastern New Mexico as a cold front surged down the eastern plains.
Low temperatures before dawn today ranged from the single digits over sections of the west to the 40s across the southeast.
Skies will clear by Wednesday morning, when temperatures will be very cold.
Breezes should kick up through this weekend along the eastern slopes of the central mountains.
