Self-Described Messiah Wayne Bent Makes First Court Appearance

  CLAYTON — A judge today rejected a request by a self-described Messiah accused of sex crimes against minors to be released on his own recognizance. But Union County Magistrate Ilene Taylor cut Wayne Bent's bond from $500,000 to $50,000. Bent, 66, said he did not have any money to pay for an attorney, so was assigned a public defender, Sarah Montoya, who tried to enter a plea of not guilty.
