ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police have identified the man who was found dead in a southeast Albuquerque parking lot last week as 42-year-old Julio Chavez-Valdez.
Officer Fred Duran, a spokesman for the Albuquerque Police Department, said earlier that Chavez-Valedez died of a possible gunshot wound. He did not confirm his cause of death Monday, but did say the case is being investigated as a homicide.
Chavez-Valedez’s body was found on the 200 block of Charleston NE on May 7.
When asked why it took so long for police to identify Chavez-Valdez, Duran said APD wanted to make sure they have the accurate identification and the victim’s family is able to make arrangements.
“This is done to ensure that an accurate and full investigation as we are sworn to do gets completed,” Duran said.
Detectives don’t have any suspects, he said.
