A school bus with the Rio Rancho Public Schools tipped on its side after it was hit by a truck just over the Rio Rancho city limits Friday morning.
John Francis, the assistant director of transportation for RRPS, said the only person in the bus was the driver and all of the children had already been dropped off at elementary school when the crash occurred.
“The driver was able to walk away,” he said.
Francis said around 9 a.m. the bus was heading west on Westside and was getting ready to turn right onto 7 Bar Loop NW when a pick-up truck hit it.
“He was broadsided by a work vehicle hauling a bobcat and that flipped him on his side,” Francis said.
The work vehicle also rear-ended a passenger car and the driver of that car was taken to the hospital with minor injuries, Francis said.
