Albuquerque High’s Jim, Mary Lois Hulsman to be honored

Albuquerque High School Hall of Fame basketball coach Jim Hulsman and his wife, Mary Lois, a long-time educator, will be honored at a dinner on June 3.

Jim Hulsman is a member of the National Federation of High Schools, National High School Athletic Coaches, UNM and the New Mexico Sports halls of fame. His Bulldogs won 660 games and seven state championships.

Mary Lois Hulsman, who met Jim while teaching at Albuquerque High, taught history, physical education and later led the guidance department at Del Norte High School.

They endowed the Hulsman Collection at the Center for Southwest Research and Special Collections at Zimmerman Library to support the conversion of UNM athletics films and videotapes for long-term preservation.

June 3 has been declared Jim and Mary Lois Hulsman Day by the State of New Mexico.

The event will be at The Embassy Suites, 1000 Woodward Place NE. It begins at 6:30 p.m.

Tickets are $50 a person with tables for eight available for $500. They can be purchased at Deadline to purchase tickets is Friday.
