ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The Albuquerque Museum of Art and History is now accepting applications for the Gallery Docent training program that starts in September, the city of Albuquerque said in a news release.
Docents provide guided tours for children and adults throughout the museum and give two-hour “Magic Bus” tours and act as a resource to provide additional insight into artifacts and artwork, the release said.
Docents are trained in a two-year program that covers New Mexico art in the first year (September through May) and New Mexico history in the second year.
Training sessions are held on Mondays and include lectures by curatorial staff, local artists and historians, as well as art studio time, according to the release.
The museum also is accepting applications for docents in the Sculpture Garden, Old Town Walking Tours and Casa San Ysidro in Corrales.
For more information about the program and to find docent applications, go to www.cabq.gov/museum.
For every year of training, docents are expected to return at least two years of service.
Applicants also are subject to a background check, according to the city’s release.
