LAS CRUCES – The New Mexico State women’s basketball team has added another strong piece to their squad this offseason. The Aggies added transfer Emporess James from Miami Dade College.
First-year New Mexico State head coach Brooke Atkinson commented on the new Aggie saying, “We are excited to add another dynamic player to our late signing class. Emporess brings experience, maturity, great athleticism and strength in the post position. She plays hard and has a great nose for the ball.”
The six-foot forward comes in after two years at MDC where she played in 53 games for the Lady Sharks. James excelled at both ends of the floor and averaged a double-double over two seasons.
In her final year with the Lady Sharks, James put up 15.1 points to go along with 12.8 rebounds through 26 contests. The impressive total on the boards ranked the forward sixth in the National Junior College Athletic Association in rebounds per game.

James’ hard work in the classroom also saw her recognized on the Southern Conference All-Academic Team and Florida College System Activities Association’s All-Academic list.
James attended William T. Dwyer High School, where she concluded her career averaging 4.2 points and 7.8 rebounds per game which earned the versatile post player a 2014-15 All-Palm Beach County Honorable Mention.
The incoming Aggie is the second youngest of 10 siblings. Her brother Joel played basketball at the University of North Carolina from 2012-16 and sister Kai suited up for Florida State from 2013-17.
