Leads in shooting sought

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Albuquerque police are seeking the public’s help in finding any leads in the shooting death of a teenage boy on Friday afternoon.

Obed Cruz, 17, was found dead in the Plaza Feliz apartment complex in the 500 block of San Pablo SE, near Zuni and Pennsylvania, around 1:30 p.m. Friday.

Officer Simon Drobik, an Albuquerque Police Department spokesman, said officers responded to the address after a call from a friend of Cruz who had been playing video games with him and was communicating via headset.

When Cruz became “uncommunicative,” Drobik said, the friend went over to check on Cruz, found him shot and called 911.

Drobik said Cruz was suffering from an unknown number of gunshot wounds.

Police spoke to Cruz’s mother and friend who called 911, but still have no suspects or leads in the case.

“We’re rushing, really behind the curve today, trying to find some witnesses, vehicle information, anyone in the neighborhood that thought they heard anything suspicious to give us a call,” Drobik said Saturday. “This is very peculiar, because there’s no information on this case, at all.”

APD’s Crimes Against Children Unit is assisting with the investigation.

Drobik said anyone with any information may contact Crime Stoppers at 843-STOP.
