For meat lovers: Angel Fire event features beef, pork, brews and wine

Head north for food, drink and fun during the Angel Fire Food & Wine Roundup on Aug. 25-27.

There is plenty to learn, eat and enjoy at brunches, lunches, cooking demonstrations and a mushroom hunt, as well as wine, spirits and craft beer appreciation seminars. The event will have a casual feel with a Western, barbecue theme.

“We have a number of celebrity chefs, two of them from of out of state,” said Kate Collins, executive director of the event. “One is Meathead Goldwyn, from the Chicago area, and he is a barbecue grill master. He has a cookbook out there. He’s also a television celebrity. He happens to be on Harry Connick Jr.’s variety show. He’s a lot of fun. He will be working … with (A Bar N Ranch’s) wagyu beef – that’s his forte.”

The other celebrity chef is Harry Soo, from California, who will be cooking with pork from Kyzer Farm in Albuquerque.

“He will be focusing and working with Kyzer pork,” Collins said. “During the course of all the events, there is a carnivore demo and lunch on Friday – beef in the morning, lunch in the middle and the pork in the afternoon. And if you go to either one of the classes or both, you also can enjoy lunch, where both Meathead and Harry will be putting together a plate of carnivore delicacies and a full menu to go with it too.”

There will be a chuckwagon breakfast, a Dutch oven cooking demonstration and the Boots, Boogie & BBQ with Angel Fire Resort’s Chef Kevin McCaffery.

The seminars on wine, spirits and craft beer will help eventgoers imbibe with a better appreciation of what they are drinking.

“It is local and regional in our overview, because we have … wines from Black Mesa and Southwest Wines,” Collins said. “There will be a collection of fine wines … from Southern Wine and Spirits, so we’ll have a variety of wine types. In addition to that, we have crafted beers, regionally including Odell out of Colorado, Enchanted Circle out of Angel Fire, Broken Trail from Albuquerque, and we also have artisanal spirits coming from Angel Fire Vodka, Santa Fe Spirits, KGB and again Broken Trail.”
