Ballet Folklorico alumnae to perform at Del Norte High School

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Dancers who were part of the Ballet Folklorico program at Del Norte High School in the 1980s-2010 are coming together to perform at 7 p.m. Friday in the Del Norte High School Performing Arts Center to benefit the scholarship program of the AlumKnights, Inc.

Tickets are $10 and may be purchased in advance at or at the door. A capacity crowd is expected, organizers said in a news release.

The Ballet Folklorico program started as part of the Spanish classes taught by Elaine Alarid, who graduated in West Mesa’s first class of 1968. Alarid started teaching at Del Norte in 1973 and retired from APS after 34 years of teaching Spanish.

Alarid’s Ballet Folklorico student dancers entertained across the city and state, with some special out-of-state performances. She sewed regional dance costumes and repaired other costumes donated to the ensemble.
