CATCHES OF THE WEEK
Evan Ortiz, 8, of Carlsbad caught a 19-inch channel catfish on Saturday at Alto Lake. He was using stink bait.
Andrew Shankle, 14, of Las Cruces caught a 17-inch channel catfish Sunday at Alumni Pond. He was using hot dogs.
Michael Gleason of Farmington caught a 22-pound catfish Aug. 27 at Lake Farmington. He was using night crawlers.
Jake Foster of Portales caught a 6-pound channel catfish Saturday at Oasis Park Lake. He was using punch bait. … Aaron Solano of Muleshoe, Texas, caught a 3-pound catfish, and Damien Moreno of Friona, Texas, caught a 2-pound, 14-ounce catfish Saturday. They were fishing the Junior Division of the Biggest Catfish Challenge, and both were using worms.
MykelJon Vasquez, 8, of Las Vegas, N.M., caught a 27-inch northern pike Saturday at Springer Lake. He was using a rattling Zara Spook.
AROUND THE STATE
ISLETA LAKES: Fishing at Isleta is very good at both lakes, with a recent stocking for the Labor Day holiday. Most anglers catching their limit using the following baits: various stink baits, garlic chicken liver, shrimp and night crawlers.

SHADY LAKES: We stocked last week with 1,200 pounds, 10- to 12-inch rainbow trout and 400 pounds of 14- to 16-inch rainbows. The trout are biting on worms, PowerBait, or salmon eggs. They are not picky.
NOTES from GAME & FISH: At TINGLEY BEACH, fishing very good using hot dogs, liver and shrimp for channel catfish.
Fishing at the ALBUQUERQUE AREA DRAINS was fair to good using worms for bluegill and catfish. We received good reports from both BELEN and ALBUQUERQUE.
Fishing at COCHITI LAKE was fair using chatter baits, creature baits, tubes, senkos and jerk baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass.
At FENTON LAKE, fishing was good using Pistol Petes, purple PowerBait, Rooster Tails and Panther Martin spinners for trout.
Streamflow on the JEMEZ RIVER near Jemez Springs on Monday morning was 12.9 cfs. Trout fishing on the JEMEZ was fair to good for anglers using worms and salmon eggs. Fishing on the SAN ANTONIO was good using worms, salmon eggs, terrestrials, elk hair caddis and small spinners.
Fishing on the BRAZOS RIVER was fair to good using small bead-head nymphs, small dry flies and worms for trout.
Monday morning water flows on the CHAMA RIVER below El Vado and Abiquiu were 605 cfs and 558 cfs respectively. Fishing below El Vado was good using hoppers, yellow sallies, woolly buggers, night crawlers, Fire Balls and PowerBait for brown and rainbow trout.
Streamflow on the PECOS RIVER below the hatchery Monday was 66.3 cfs. Fishing was very good using salmon eggs, worms, elk hair caddis and midge imitations for trout.
Fishing at MONASTERY LAKE was very good using worms and PowerBait for trout.
At UTE LAKE, fishing was very good using night crawlers for big bluegill.
Fishing at NAVAJO LAKE was good using swim baits, tubes, curly tail grubs, crank baits, jerk baits and chatter baits for smallmouth bass and largemouth bass. Fishing was very good using worms, spinners, grubs and small crank baits for perch. Most of the perch action was reported on the San Juan arm.
Streamflow on the SAN JUAN RIVER on Monday morning was 769 cfs. If you are nymphing or bait fishing further downstream, add a little more weight and you should still have a successful trip. Fly fishing action through the quality waters was good for anglers using RS2s, emergers, red annelids, bunny leeches, San Juan worms, dead chickens, parachute Adams and small Griffith’s gnats. Trout fishing through the bait waters was good using night crawlers, PowerBait, San Juan worms, woolly worms, wooly buggers and Panther Martin spinners.
Fishing at ELEPHANT BUTTE LAKE was fair to good using cut bait, shrimp, night crawlers and chicken liver for catfish.
Fishing at ALUMNI POND was very good using chicken liver, beef liver and worms for catfish.
