Van Sickle picks up Santa Fe mayor candidate forms

SANTA FE — There may be another candidate entering the race for mayor of Santa Fe.

Harvey Van Sickle picked up packet material for mayoral candidates at the City Clerk’s Office last week, City Clerk Yolanda Vigil confirmed this week.

Van Sickle did not return messages from the Journal on Monday or Tuesday seeking confirmation that he intends to run for the position that current Mayor Javier Gonzales announced last week he would be vacating.

City Councilor Ron Trujillo is running for mayor in the March 2018 city elections.

An online search shows that Van Sickle serves on the board of Keep Santa Fe Beautiful, which describes itself as a “not-for-profit volunteer program dedicated to environmental education, litter awareness and prevention and beautification programs.”

Van Sickle was featured in a 2012 article in the Santa Fe New Mexican that focused on his portrayal as Santa Claus at Christmas time. He sports long white hair and beard.

According to the article, Van Sickle makes a living as a “jack of all trades,” much of his work involving construction and home and building property management.

Next year’s municipal election is set for March 6.
