ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Residents of Socorro County reported to the National Weather Service that at least one tornado touched ground near the town of Magdalena.
There has been a handful of reports of minor damage to property, said Christopher Luckett, a weather service intern collecting information from the storm. Most of that damage has been related to high winds associated with the storm rather than a tornado itself, he said.
The service issued a tornado warning at about 2 p.m. after seeing some twister-like circulations in the clouds. Several people called to report that they saw funnel clouds dipping out of the sky, but most of those did not make it all the way to the ground, Luckett said.
The tornado warning was officially called off less than 15 minutes later, Luckett said. The storm had moved east, toward Lincoln County, by 3 p.m.
