ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Doc Pleads Guilty in Drug Case

RATON — Federal prosecutors say a northern New Mexico doctor has pleaded guilty to trafficking prescription drugs.

The U.S. Attorney’s Office says 48-yearold Gilbert Christopher Aragon Jr. entered his plea to a five-count indictment during a hearing Friday in Albuquerque.

The trafficking took place between July 2009 and July 2010 while he worked at the Family Practice Clinic. Prosecutors said Aragon admitted in his plea agreement that he conspired with his wife to obtain prescription painkillers

and anxiety medication through fraudulent prescriptions and by misusing a colleague’s Drug Enforcement Administration registration number. His wife has not been charged.

Settlement With Recycle Plant

SOCORRO — A settlement has been reached between the state Environment Department and a tire and rubber recycling facility near Socorro over solid waste violations.

The department says the settlement with Southwest Tire Processors Inc. called for an engineered cap to be constructed over the site to prevent contamination of groundwater and a civil penalty of more than $119,000.
