Cabela’s is now open.
The national outdoor outfitter opened its doors this morning to a crowd of thousands, many of whom had been waiting outside since yesterday.
Cabela’s opening ceremony included a flag raising and a concert from Nashville country star Lucas Hoge before a Cabela’s archery expert shot a clay pigeon, cutting the ribbon.
Shortly after, the store was flooded with excited customers, the first hundred of whom received Cabela’s gift cards.
“We are very excited for Legacy @ Journal Center,” said Kurt Browning, chief development officer for Titan Development. “I think it will be a great anchor retailer and a destination retailer for Albuquerque.”
The store, at Paseo del Norte and Interstate 25, features interactive touch screen kiosks, an archery range and an educational firearms display.
General Manager Chris Wilson moved to Albuquerque from Georgia to manage the new location.
“We are excited to be here,” said Wilson. “The support from the community that we have had since the ground-breaking has been incredible.”
This is the Nebraska-based company’s first location in New Mexico.
