Explora! Receives National Medal

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — First lady Michelle Obama on Friday presented Albuquerque’s Explora! museum with a 2010 National Medal for Museum and Library Services at a White House ceremony.



Explora! is one of five museums and five libraries to be honored. The Institute of Museum and Library Services gives the award to institutions demonstrating a commitment to public service through innovative programs and community partnerships.

Explora!’s board president, Len Duda, executive director Patrick Lopez and associate director Paul Tatter attended the White House ceremony. They were accompanied by Sara Keeney, principal of Los Padillas Elementary School. The school has participated in Explora!’s inquiry-based programs.


Explora! received a $10,000 prize.
