LAS VEGAS, Nev. — The University of New Mexico women’s golf team finished its final tournament of the fall season in eighth place among 16 teams competing at the UNLV’s Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown with a final team score of 17-over 881 [283-292-306].
“The wind got the best of us today,” said head coach Jill Trujillo. “Ingrid and Caroline had a great tournament despite blustery conditions.”
New Mexico State fared slightly, better, coming in seventh with a 15-over 879 (288-290-301).
The team winner was host UNLV with a team total of 847 (-17), followed by San Jose State in second at 857 (-7) and Missouri in third with a score of 859 (-5).
Dominique Galloway led the charge for New Mexico State with rounds of 70-69-76 to finish at 215 (-1) to tie for 13th on the individual leaderboard.
Leading for the Lobos since the first round was senior Ingrid Gutierrez, who finished in the top-5 with a final score of 5-under 211 [66,69,76].
It was the final tournament of calanedar year 2017 for each team. UNM starts the 2018 spring season back in Las Vegas on Feb. 26 at The Rebel/Beach Invitational hosted by UNLV and Long Beach State. The Aggies will be back in action on the same day, at the Bruin/Wave Invitationa in San Luis Obispo, Calif.
