SANTA FE, N.M. — An entertainer and political activist with ties to New Mexico’s hippie counterculture will be in Santa Fe Thursday for the screening of his documentary.
Wavy Gravy gained prominence in the 1960s as the founder of the Hog Farm hippie commune, which was one of the main participants in the first Woodstock Festival, and as the official clown for the Grateful Dead. Hog Farm briefly settled in Llano, New Mexico before going back in California where it still is today.
The New Mexico History Museum will screen his 2009 documentary, “Saint Misbehavin’: The Wavy Gravy Movie,” at 2 p.m. Thursday with a Q&A to follow. Admission is free.
The documentary was directed by Michelle Esrick.
