ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — After a woman called police to report that bullets were flying through her apartment Monday morning, officers found a man shot to death in the unit next door.

Officer Simon Drobik, a spokesman for the Albuquerque Police Department, said that around 11 a.m. the woman told police a bullet had been fired into her home from a neighboring apartment in a fourplex on the 200 block of Texas NE, near Chico.

“The officers that arrived on scene checked the adjacent apartment and there was a deceased male inside,” Drobik said.

He said detectives believe the man’s death is a homicide. But, he said, it was still too early to know if the man was the intended target of the shooting or why he was killed.

Drobik did not identify the victim or know how old he was. He said detectives don’t know yet who may have killed him, but have several leads and are serving search warrants.

“There are no suspects at this time, but these guys are working on it,” Drobik said. “They are talking to neighbors to see if they saw any cars or have any suspect information.”

Investigators could be seen going in and out of a small apartment complex on the west side of Texas.

This is the second fatal shooting in the area in three days. On Friday, a man was shot and killed in a house on the 200 block of Utah, which is one block to the east of Monday’s scene.

No one has been arrested in that man’s death and police have not released his identity.
