World Series champion Alex Bregman will throw out the first pitch to open the Albuquerque Sports Complex on Wednesday, Albuquerque Mayor Richard Berry tweeted on Thursday.
Bregman, an Albuquerque native and Academy graduate, helped the Houston Astros beat the Los Angeles Dodgers to win the 2017 World Series title.
The ceremony begins at 3:30 p.m. The complex features five baseball fields, designed for tournament competition. It is located next to Nusenda Community Stadium, at 1801 Arroyo Vista Blvd. N.W.
Since the World Series win, Bregman has been making the rounds, appearing on national television shows, including a stint on Saturday Night Live.
Last week he was honored at Tiger Stadium at LSU, where he played collegiate baseball.
Bregman had five runs, seven hits, including two homers and drove in five runs in the seven-game Series. His RBI single in Game 5 gave the Astros a 10-inning, 13-12 victory.
