It’s time again to assess your health.
I’m not talking about blood pressure and cholesterol levels here. I’m talking about the health of your organization.
The Albuquerque Journal is once again sponsoring New Mexico’s Top Workplaces, the largest statewide survey of its kind. Consider this an annual checkup, but with the benefit of getting to celebrate the good results afterward.
We’ll once again be partnering with Energage – previously known as WorkplaceDynamics – to conduct the survey. Energage conducts Top Workplaces surveys for more than 40 major metro newspapers and last year surveyed 2.8 million employees at nearly 7,000 organizations.
Taking part gives you a chance to find out what you’re doing right when it comes to motivating your employees and where you need to improve.
Why does that matter? As Energage will tell you, having engaged employees is key to having a healthy, effective organization.
Getting there is not just about having a cool office with nice perks, but about building a culture around a clear sense of purpose, appreciation, good communication and teamwork.
Taking part in Top Workplaces can help with that. Santa Ana Star Casino has taken part in the survey for five years. There’s a reason.
“It’s helped unify us,” Human Resources Director James Stevens told us earlier this year. “It’s become our goal to stay strong and keep trying for the No. 1 spot year after year.”
For the record, Santa Ana did take the top slot in the Large Employer category for 2017. It was among the 75 organizations that took part and the 45 that made the Top Workplaces list based on the employee surveys.
So, how does this work?
The Top Workplaces team will reach out to companies and organizations around New Mexico to compile a comprehensive list of New Mexico’s Top Workplaces for 2018. The results will be published in a special section of the Sunday Journal next spring. An analysis of the results will be provided to the employers.
To join the survey, an employee, employer or customer needs to nominate the company by Jan. 19 through ABQJournal.com/nominate or by calling 505-288-3443.
The organization will receive a call from Energage a few weeks later to explain the survey process.
Employees will be surveyed about the company’s direction, execution and engagement of employees. Energage determines who makes the list based on those surveys.
The survey has strict protocols. There is no internet voting, no “click as many times as you can,” and participating companies must grant individual access to either all employees or a vast majority for larger businesses.
Among the benefits of making the Top Workplaces list are improving employee morale and collecting important employee feedback. And consider the boost it will give you in recruiting new talent for your team.
The Journal’s Top Workplaces 2017 publication was seen by tens of thousands of readers across New Mexico, and employers named to the list can use their “Albuquerque Journal Top Workplace” designation in all media relations and recruitment efforts.
What you need to know about Top Workplaces
• Any organization with 35 or more employees in New Mexico is eligible to participate (can be public, private, non-profit, government)
• Workplaces are evaluated by their employees using a 24-question survey.
• Companies will be surveyed during December through February.
