LAS CRUCES — UC Santa Barbara hit 14 3-pointers to NMSU’s one and utterly dominated the Aggies 77-47 in a matinee contest at the Pan Am Center.
The 3-9 Gauchos, who have won two straight after losing nine in a row, hit their first three 3-pointers, and even the final score didn’t indicate how lopsided the game was. The 5-8 Aggies trailed 50-18 at halftime and by 41 points in the third quarter.
Guard Sarah Porter hit five 3s and led the Gauchos with 17 points. New Mexico State’s Brooke Salas had a game-high 18 points, albeit on inefficient 7-of-23 shooting. Jasmine Cooper added 14 points on 7-of-10 shooting from the field.
NMSU tries again with a 2 p.m. Monday game vs. Division II Western New Mexico.
