The state has launched a new website intended to shed light on health care prices.
The website allows New Mexicans to compare average prices and quality statistics, such as readmission rates, for common, non-emergency procedures at each of the state’s 44 hospitals.
The average prices displayed are those paid by Medicaid for nine procedures. Medicaid currently covers about 45 percent of all New Mexicans, and pays for about 72 percent of all births in the state, according to Think New Mexico.
The website is managed by the state Department of Health and is the result of legislation passed in 2015 based on recommendations from Think New Mexico, according to a news release from that organization.
