The Albuquerque Community Foundation, which manages $160,000 in scholarships available to New Mexico students, has announced details and deadlines for 19 awards programs.
Each was established by a individual or family with individual interests and priority areas, the news release said.
Requirements vary for each program. Most can be applied for online at albuquerquefoundation.org/student-aid.aspx
⋄ The Barnes W. Rose, Jr. and Eva Rose Nichol Scholarship of up to $700 is for a student at Albuquerque High School with financial need, a GPA of 3.6 or better and pursuing a degree in a STEM major. Deadline to apply is March 22.
⋄ The Bryan Cline Memorial Soccer Scholarship goes to two Eldorado High School seniors playing varsity soccer, one male and one female, $800 each. Deadline to apply is March 22.
⋄ The Carl F. Scott Scholarship, in collaboration with Tucumcari Lodge No. 27 AF&AM, is for students working toward a two- or four-year degree, masters or doctoral degree. In 2017, this fund made 18 awards between $750 and $2,800. Deadline to apply is March 22.
⋄ The James Ledwith Memorial Scholarship, one $1,000 award, is for Albuquerque-area high school seniors who continue to pursue a “life dream” of a professional or educational goal in spite of facing extraordinary life challenges. Deadline to apply is March 22.
⋄ The Kiwanis Club of Albuquerque Scholarship, one to four awards of $1,000 each, is for Albuquerque area high school graduating seniors with strong community service experience, minimum GPA 3.0, ACT score of 2. Deadline to apply is March 22.
⋄ The New Mexico Manufactured Housing Association Scholarship, one to two awards of $1,000, is for graduating New Mexico high school seniors living in mobile/manufactured homes, minimum GPA 3.0. Deadline to apply is March 22.
⋄ The Robby Baker Memorial Scholarship, up to $850, is for a La Cueva High School graduating senior with a language learning or other reading disability. The deadline to apply is March 22.
⋄ The Woodcock Family Education Scholarship is two to three scholarships for $10,000 payable over four years of education. It is for Albuquerque area high school graduating seniors with strong math and/or science credentials; minimum GPA 3.8, minimum ACT score of 30 or minimum SAT of 680. Deadline is March 22.
⋄ The Youth in Foster Care Scholarship, one to two awards of up to $1,000, is for applicants who have been in the state foster care system for at least one year at the time of their 18th birthday. Graduating high school seniors or undergraduate college students, with minimum GPA 2.5 (or high school GED). Deadline is March 22.
⋄ The Women in Rhetoric and Logic Scholarship, one award of $3,000, is for a graduating Albuquerque Academy female student. Deadline is March 22.
⋄ The Susie Kubie Symphonic Music Scholarship, one award of $4,000, for a student who has participated in the Albuquerque Youth Symphony Program and intends to pursue a degree in music. Deadline is March 22.
⋄ The Sussman-Miller Educational Assistance Award, varying between $500 and $2,000, to address the ‘gap’ in financial aid packages for both students graduating from New Mexico high schools and those continuing their education. Minimum GPA 3.0. First of two deadlines is April 23 for high school seniors who will attend out-of-state college or in-state private school. A second deadline of June 18 is for high school seniors who will attend a New Mexico public college and any student already attending college in or out of the state.
⋄ The American Advertising Federation — New Mexico Scholarship, one to two awards of up to $1,400, is for students who want to enter the advertising profession in New Mexico. Applicant must be a New Mexico resident enrolled full-time in a New Mexico four-year nonprofit or public educational institution. Minimum GPA of 3.0. Deadline is June 7.
⋄ The Andrew Piech Memorial Scholarship, one award up to $2,000, is for an Albuquerque-area high school senior or continuing college student pursuing an automotive or technical vocational career. Deadline is June 7.
⋄ The David R. Woodling Memorial Scholarship, one to two awards of up to $4,600, is for New Mexico high school or continuing education students interested in a metals technology program. Deadline is June 7.
⋄ The Rae Lee Siporin Scholarship for Women, one to two awards of up to $1,000, is for women pursuing their first undergraduate degree who need financial assistance for the senior year of college and have taken an official break during the educational career. Deadline is June 7.
⋄ The Trythall Family Scholarship for Excellence in Continuing Education, one to four awards of up to $1,000, is for individuals living in the Albuquerque area who work a minimum of 20 hours a week and attend school. Minimum GPA 3.0. Deadline is June 7.
⋄ The Manuel Lujan Excellence in Education Scholarship, $500 per year for a total of four years of undergraduate work, for graduating high school seniors chosen annually by each of 24 designated high schools. Students must continue their education in New Mexico and have minimum GPA of 2.5.
