New Mexico State’s Brooke Salas has been named the Western Athletic Conference player of the week for the second time this season. In a 70-62 win over Missouri Kansas City, the 5-foot-11 junior from Placentia, Calif., was 10-for-13 from the field with a pair of 3-pointers and a pair of free throws for 24 points, also adding 14 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season. Salas’ 56-percent shooting percentage on 3-point attempts is best in the league. The WAC-leading Aggies (11-9, 5-1) are back in action Saturday at UT Rio Grande Valley.

In other noteworthy performances by state players:

  • Eastern New Mexico’s Daeshi McCants was chosen as the Lone Star Conference’s defensive player of the week. The Las Cruces native’s 19 rebounds against UT Permian Basin were the most by a Grehound since the 2006-07 season, and her 20 points to go with it gave her a sixth-double-double for the season.
  • Eldorado graduate Ari Baca had two big games for New Mexico Highlands this past weekend, scoring 46 points in losses to Regis and Chadron State.
