LAS CRUCES — Police say a Las Cruces woman shot toward two people in another car during a road rage incident Thursday, blasting out her own back window in the process.
Fiona McCrossin, 22, is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a fourth-degree felony, the Las Cruces Police Department said in news release. No one was injured in the incident.
According to police, the shooting happened just before 6 p.m. near Roadrunner Parkway and Lohman Avenue.
Investigators learned a young woman and her 13-year-old sister were in a car going east on Lohman Avenue and, before arriving at Roadrunner Parkway, a Mazda sedan driven by a woman approached and both drivers began honking at each other. The vehicles turned north on Roadrunner Parkway and “both drivers engaged in aggressive driving.”
“At about that time, the driver of the Mazda, later identified as McCrossin, pointed a handgun at the Lexus and discharged one round,” LCPD said. “Police learned the round fired by McCrossin shattered the back window of her own vehicle.”
McCrossin fled, police said, but was found a short time later at an apartment on Roadrunner Parkway. Police found a spent .380 caliber shell casing in her car and also recovered the gun she’s believed to have used.
McCrossin was booked into the Doña Ana County jail without bail.
