Police: Gas station attendant killed during armed robbery in Edgewood

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — State Police say an attendant at the Smith’s Fuel Center in Edgewood was fatally shot Sunday afternoon during an armed robbery.

Officer Carl Christiansen said police believe a man with a semiautomatic handgun and a bandana tied over his face walked into the gas station, located on N.M. 344 near Route 66, around 4 p.m., robbed the attendant and shot him. The attendant was transported to a hospital where he died.

Christiansen said in a news release that the suspect was described as white or Hispanic, approximately 25 to 30 years old, thin and around 6 feet tall. He said it is not clear what was taken from the fuel center during the robbery.

Police have not released the victim’s name or age.
