ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Something new is brewing on the West Side.

La Cumbre Brewing president and co-founder Jeff Erway said Monday he has signed a lease to open a new 2,400-square-foot taproom in the North Andalucia at La Luz shopping center, where the recently opened Sprouts grocery store is the anchor tenant.

Erway confirmed on Lu Cumbre’s website the expansion to the retail center, located at Coors and MontaƱo.

He said the company has retained an architect, submitted license applications and interviewed general contractors for tenant improvements.

“The ball is rolling,” wrote Erway. “The landlord is actively finishing their portion of the build-out and once we have possession, we will complete the construction of the tap room and open as soon as possible thereafter.”

He said the taproom will also include a 900-square-foot patio space with views of the Sandias.

Current developments near the heavily-trafficked shopping center include construction of a 280-unit Class A apartment complex and a U.S. New Mexico Federal Credit Union store.

La Cumbre began as a small operation in 2010 with five part-time employees and has since expanded to 40 full-time workers. The company maintains a taproom in the brewery district at 3313 Girard NE. It saw extensive renovations in 2014, but has not opened additional taprooms around the city, as many of its competitors have done.

“I cannot wait to raise a pint once this new space is ready to share with you all,” said Erway.
