State Police K-9 leaves behind prestigious career

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — New Mexico State Police mourned the loss of one of their K-9 units Tuesday.

Officer Ray Wilson said the 9-year-old Belgian Malinois, named Arras, passed away after an unexpected medical event.

He said Arras served with State Police since 2012 and is responsible for the seizure of 294 pounds of meth, 133 pounds of cocaine, 82 pounds of heroin and 1,218 pounds of marijuana.

Wilson said Arras also chased and caught a fleeing felon not once, but twice, in his career.

Arras is survived by his handler, and friend, Sergeant Ronald Wood.
