Police arrest woman connected in Edgewood gas station killing

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Police have arrested Misty Nevarez, one of the seven people police say planned an armed robbery that ended with the death of an Edgewood gas station clerk.

Nevarez, 29, was found by the Albuquerque Police Department on General Hodges Street in Albuquerque, Lt. Elizabeth Armijo said. She has been charged with murder, armed robbery, and tampering with evidence.

Police have already arrested five other people connected to the crime, Armijo said.

On Feb. 11, a masked man carrying a gun entered the Smith’s Fuel Station booth in Edgewood off of Interstate 40, Armijo said. The man then took cash from the register and shot Michael Pelkey, 62. Pelkey died from the gun shot wounds on his way to the hospital.

Armijo said that the robbery was “calculated, planned and executed” by all seven suspects.

One more person, Daniel Martinez, is at large, Armijo said.
