ABQ restaurant takes center stage on ‘Food Paradise’

All it took was a call.

And Cherie Montoya was all in.

Last summer, the Travel Channel reached out to Montoya because the TV series “Food Paradise” wanted to do a segment at her restaurant, Farm & Table.

Today, the world will get to see a piece of the Albuquerque restaurant.

“To get the exposure is amazing,” Montoya said. “Especially with the Travel Channel. Now people outside of New Mexico might get excited to experience an authentic farm-to-table experience.”

The episode of “Food Paradise” that features Farm & Table will air at 6 p.m. today on Travel Channel.

The episode will highlight the world’s most luxurious steaks as well as the season’s most vibrant veggies and how diners from across the country are going wild for homegrown goodness and the popular farm-to-table restaurants.

A film crew went out to Farm & Table last summer and filmed for one day.

Farm & Table has been open for six years. Over the course of that time, the restaurant has been featured on various TV shows, but never the Travel Channel.

“It was pretty amazing to have them here,” she said. “There are very few restaurants that are featured on a farm. Here we’re growing and raising the beef on site. In terms of the farm-to-table experience, it was good for them to be able to go out to the farm and see exactly what we’re doing.”

Montoya said the crew got a chance to visit with her father, David, who raises cattle and supplies some of the meat at Farm & Table.

“They are featuring our local beef,” she said. “That’s one of the pieces that gets missed a lot. Often people focus on growing vegetables and such locally. Our meat is local, too. When this airs, we will be getting another shipment of my dad’s particular meat he is raising. We are a destination restaurant. People love the Southwest and food is part of the tourist experience.”
