ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Imagination Playground in a Cart is an innovative design in play equipment that encourages creativity, communication and collaboration in play. With a collection of custom-designed, oversized blue foam parts, Imagination Playground provides a changing array of elements that allow children to turn their playground into a space constantly built and rebuilt by their imagination.
The staff of Embudo Valley Library will use the equipment in their early literacy story time, afterschool and summer reading programs and will share the equipment with community partners, including Picuris Pueblo, Dixon Elementary School and Rio Arriba Independent Libraries. Library director Felicity Fonseca says “We are excited to have more play resources for our rural community. We hope to use the equipment for year round outdoor family fun and connection and to draw families in to the library. Play is the perfect complement to family reading. We look forward to linking both of these healthy behaviors in our community.”
“Play is an important part of childhood,” said Dr. Eugene Sun, vice president and chief medical officer, BCBSNM. “Active play on a daily basis helps children develop physically, mentally and emotionally. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico and our dedicated staff are proud to contribute this playground to help children in Dixon, Rio Arriba County, and Picuris Pueblo develop active minds and bodies.”
BCBSNM worked with KaBOOM!, the national nonprofit dedicated to giving all kids the childhood they deserve through play, to select Embudo Valley Library to receive the playground equipment. This is the twelfth Imagination Playground that BCBSNM has donated since 2013.
