Wildfire burning on Kirtland training area

A 50 to 100-acre wildfire is burning on Kirtland Air Force Base land in the East Mountains, a spokesman said Sunday.

Jim Fisher, spokesman for the base, said the fire is burning on a training range in a remote area on the eastern side of the base, although he could not immediately provide a precise location.

Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office Capt. Justin Dunlap said his office was aware of the fire and said it is “contained and there is possibly some smoke blowing that way.” But there is no need for an evacuation.
